Christ Has Overcome the World

God’s Word is filled with rich promises for His children. How do these “precious and very great promises” inform and direct your grief? How does keeping your eyes fixed on these truths anchor your hope in the Lord? In this series, we write about how God, through the promises in His Word, comforts and strengthens us in our sorrow. When I was in 9th grade, I found my favorite Bible verse: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 ...

He Has Set Eternity On Our Hearts

Welcome to Hope Mommies’ In the Word devotionals. Over the next several weeks, we will be studying the book of Ecclesiastes together, which centers on the truth that life apart from Christ is empty and vain. In its pages, we discover how to view our lives with an eternal perspective, enabling us to press into the Lord regardless of our circumstances. In this series, we seek to explore the wise principles presented to us by "the Teacher" in order to better understand what it looks like to walk in the fear and joy of the Lord even in the midst of our ...

This Is A Mother

There is a verse in Genesis that talks about pain in childbirth. The NIV version states, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children.” And the King James version, “Unto the woman he said, ‘I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children’” (Genesis 3:16). Perhaps, like me, you believe this verse refers to the painful process of giving birth. But, ask any mother, there is so much more pain to childbirth, childbearing, and child-raising, then ...

Father’s Day Encouragement: Abide In Jesus

A HIGH CALLING Father’s Day. I love this day, and most of the time I use it as an excuse to take our family camping. “You know, it's Father’s Day. Maybe we should do what any good dad would do with his family, and head into the woods for a few days.” It works most years.  But, Father’s Day is also a day where I reflect on what it means to be a good father in all seasons. As fathers, we share a title with God—our heavenly Father. While this is a great honor, it is also sobering. To be a father, as God is our heavenly Father, is a high calling. We ...

Paige’s Story

In March 2019, Mike and I found out that we were pregnant. We were ecstatic. I had suffered a miscarriage in June of 2018, and I felt really hopeful about this pregnancy. My due date was November 17, 2019. We were living in Florida, and we quickly decided to move back to Maryland, where I am originally from, to be around my family and friends who would be playing a huge role in our child's life.  We moved back to Maryland in June and started buying things for the baby's room little by little. It was so fun for us. Every weekend we had a project to work on. Then, ...

Hymns of Hope: What a Friend We Have in Jesus

Many of the hymns were born out of immense sorrow. In this series, we will examine these songs of old, discover the circumstances behind when they were written, and find comfort in the lyrics that so powerfully point us to the hope of Christ. My grief was overrun with the sin of fear and distrust. Out of that struggle, I learned to pray in a new way. I know that sounds so elementary, but I want to be honest about how groundbreaking this simple act was in my life after loss. Before loss, I loved learning about truth and reading Scripture. I could recall and ...

A Song for My Soul: Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor

Music has the ability to speak into the deepest recesses of our hearts. God often uses songs to speak hope and encouragement to our souls. In this series, Hope Moms share songs that have pointed them to the hope of Christ in the midst of their grief. Is there a song that has comforted you in your grief? We'd love to have you share your story here. Music has always been able to speak deeply to my soul. And while I cannot carry a tune, I sure do try. For each of our living children, I have rocked them, sang them a hymn, and prayed that the lyrics would ring ...

Lollipops of Grace

The nature of infant loss occurring in 1 out of 4 pregnancies, means that there are new women joining our community on a weekly basis. Over the next few weeks, we want to repost some of our earliest blog articles to encourage the dear mommas that have recently joined the ministry and community of Hope Mommies. Although these posts may have been written many years ago, the truths they contain remain the same. God is enough. He has always been enough. And as we place our hope in Him, we will find that He is our anchor in the midst of this storm of grief. Summertime ...
