In the Word: God is Merciful
Welcome to Hope Mommies’ In the Word devotionals. Over the next several weeks, we will be looking at different characteristics of God—specifically reflecting on how each aspect of His character offers us hope in the midst of our grief. As we study together, we encourage you to use the comments as a place to dialogue with us about what you are learning and share your answers to the questions below. We pray that you hearts will be encouraged as you dig into the infinitely beautiful character of God along with us!
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23
READ:
God’s mercy is demonstrated in His care and concern towards those who are broken and weary. His mercy stretches beyond reconciling us to God, and gives us freedom from fear, and hope for everlasting, permanent joy! While each day greets us with new mercies from God to taste and experience, eternity will be filled with even greater mercies that our hearts can look forward to with great confidence and hope!
Our good God pours out His mercies on us every day in every moment. Don’t let these provisions pass unnoticed. They are all undeserved, lavish favor from God. Soak them in! Look for them in each moment of your day. Write them down. Praise Him for His comfort, compassion, and loving-kindness. His mercies are awaiting you even in the pain, the darkness, and the sorrow.
Does this resonate with you? I don’t know where you are today, or the circumstances surrounding your sorrow, but if you will trust God, mercy is in your life right now. It is all over your life—mercy that is new every morning. Will you hold on to God and trust in His mercy?
REFLECT:
1. How have you experienced God’s mercy in your grief?
2. In what ways have you questioned God’s mercy to you? In what ways have you embraced it?
3. What steps can you take to develop a greater awareness of God’s mercy in your life?
JOURNAL:
The mercies of our good God are new each and every day. Take some time this weekend to make a list of His mercies in your life. Add to this list daily. As you open your heart in recognition of His mercy, you will find evidences of it everywhere.
