In the Word: Enduring Forever
Welcome to Hope Mommies’ In the Word devotionals. Over the next several weeks, we will be studying Psalm 19:7-11 together. The grieving heart will often grasp at anything that seems to offer even the smallest glimmer of comfort. But every attempt to be comforted apart from God and His Word will only end in greater disappointment. In this series, we will be examining the richness of the Word, and discover how we, as Hope Moms, can find true and lasting comfort in Scripture.
Enduring Forever
“The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.”
Psalm 19:9
READ:
In the world, it’s hard to find something that endures forever.
My love of New Kids on the Block? Nope.
My flat stomach from high school? Not so much.
The Reece’s Pieces candy from Easter? Those didn’t even last a week.
But God’s Word? That has endured, and will endure forever.
The Bible is God’s message to us. It contains His promises and reminders of His faithfulness. We can rely on His Word to provide us with a solid foundation, offer us encouragement, and point us toward hope. God consistently uses His Word to speak to our hearts. The Bible was written so long ago, yet it’s still completely applicable and relevant today. How many of us Hope Moms can relate to David in Psalm 13?
“How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.”
I know I’ve felt that anguish, and I bet you have too. As a Hope Mom, we can become so overwhelmed with grief that it often feels as if we have been forgotten by God. Luckily, the psalm doesn’t end there:
“But I trust in Your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in Your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for He has been good to me.”
David doesn’t stay engulfed in his sorrow. He recalls God’s faithfulness to him, and is able to rejoice. What a beautiful reminder for us! The Bible is filled with food for our soul. When we feed on God’s Word, hope drives out despair, and truth dissipates Satan’s lies. God’s Word endures forever!
REFLECT:
- What are some Scriptures that have ministered to you in your grief journey?
- Who could you share these verses with to encourage them?
JOURNAL:
Write out your own psalm or prayer to God in which you pour out your heart to Him. Make a list of the ways God has been good to you.
