Hope Mommies Retreat: A Place of Healing and Hope
I do not know where my words are [physically] finding you—curled up on the couch with a cup of tea, or up at 3:00am with tear stained cheeks. I do not know where my words are [emotionally] finding you—angry at the hand dealt you and withdrawing from all of your old daily rhythms, or desperately seeking and choosing joy as you rebuild your new normal. I do not know if my words find you tugging at the robe of King Jesus, begging Him to make sense of it all, or if you are running as far and fast away from the gospel as your weary legs can take you.
What I do know, courageous sister, is that you are at the right spot. You are welcome here. You are wanted here. Please, join in and be here. As much as you need to speak your baby’s name aloud, others here are feeling the same way. Do not be alone in this.
Coming together to seek hope, relate to one another in loss, and share the real, raw, and heartbreaking pieces of your story is the very reason we invite you to join us for the Hope Mommies Retreat each year. Our weekend retreats provide a unique opportunity to dive into a community where hope and healing can be found. Your guttural cries on the bathroom floor, the way you envy the mom lugging around all six of her kids in the grocery store with anger in her voice, how you beat your fist against the steering wheel as you drive past the hospital where you last held your little love, all of that and everything in-between is welcome and not strange here.
The pain you feel is devastatingly not unknown amongst those in our community. The story of your baby is unique, though. How you revealed the pregnancy or kept it secret, the decor of the nursery or theme of the baby shower, how your husband responded, the name you chose or the name you didn’t get to choose because the gender is only known to God, how you stretched and grew, the birth plan you chalked up, the amount of hair your baby had, all of these details are forever unique, profound, and beautiful to you. And it is our great honor each year to create space for you to share these precious details with others.
The annual Hope Mommies Retreat is a respite for the weary soul and aching heart. It’s a place to let walls fall down and let others lend hopeful hands to help rebuild in the name of Jesus. It’s true that your eyes will forever see the world differently—every holiday, every baby shower, every worship song has a completely new meaning to you. That doesn’t have to mean the new meaning is bitter. There can be new meaning that rests wholly in the truth that God is working in you, around you, and through you in the midst of your suffering.
Would you consider joining us—opening your heart to share your baby and worship alongside others who can relate to the aching pains your heart beats with?
And, let me add with a heap of sincerity that this isn’t just a weekend of heavy stories and hot tears. There is a lot of celebrating, laughter, and joy. Your baby is in the safest arms in the loveliest place with the best of company. And that, dear sister, is a lot to celebrate. Jesus shows up in this place in the sweetest of ways, and His peace flows throughout each element of the retreat. You will be met there by strangers who become dear friends. While this may seem uncomfortable at first, it will quickly be filled with a sense of unexplainable peace.
The 2022 Hope Mommies retreats is April 8-10, a weekend of fellowship, growth, and healing as we explore the theme “A Song in the Night.”
We want you to know that your broken heart is beautiful, because it is held by a Great Love. It takes faith to believe in what we cannot see and to sing ourselves forward into hope– believing that our faithful, sovereign and loving God works all things together for good. When we raise our songs in the night, we declare, against all our feelings, that God reigns over the darkness, that God is at work in the darkness, and that God is still worthy of worship in the darkness. He alone can make this dark night of the soul bearable, and the songs we sing in the night will be one way that He lifts up the valleys, makes low the hills, and prepares the way for joy and light to return.
“Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls: all your breakers and your waves have gone over me. By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.“
– Psalm 42:7-8
You are being prayed for on worn knees with tears streaming. Sweet mama, if your dark night of the soul seems long and you have come to the end of yourself, I want you to know you aren’t alone. There is a God who sees, and cares, and cries with you. He longs to commune with you in your suffering and give you a song in the night.
