A Prayer For The One Who Mourns

On this day set aside to remember the lives of our babies who have gone home ahead of us, my heart is aching alongside yours. I wish that October 15 did not hold this remembrance of sorrow for you. But it is my prayer that in the midst of your grief today, you will also see the unfading beauty of the hope of Christ pierce through the darkness.

A Prayer For The One Who Mourns

O Lord
You know the ache of my heart.
You see my suffering and draw near.
As I drink from this stream of sorrow, I turn to You.

What began as joyful anticipation has crumbled into an unsung song.
A story, never to be told.
You are familiar with the void that has been left behind.
There is so much that will never be.

How long, O Lord?
How long until all that is wrong will be made right?
How long until the eternal restoration of this sin-cursed world?
I wait for You.

My faith feels feeble.
My soul is weary.
My tears have become a faithful companion.
The days drag on in darkness.

Yet, even in my darkest days of grief, You have not abandoned me.
You who suffered everything for me,
Grant me now the comfort only You can give.
I cling to Your promises.

My sight is limited.
I cannot understand the expanse of Your ways.
Teach me to trust in You.
For I know there is no error in workings.

Hold me fast.
I am shattered and crushed.
My strength fails; my eyes are swollen and weary.
Be the lifter of my head.

I cry out to you for help.
You are my Rock and my Salvation.
You alone can fill the emptiness of my heart.
You are with me even now.

I will sing of your faithfulness in the valley.
You are teaching my heart a new song.
Your purposes are good and your promises are true.
Your mercy endures forever.
