Local Chapter Update: Northern Indiana
What’s happening in Northern Indiana:
The Northern Indiana Chapter of Hope Mommies was established in September 2016. Prior to this, approximately 50 Hope Boxes had been distributed in Elkhart & Saint Joseph counties to women who had experienced stillbirth, miscarriage or infant loss, mainly by word of mouth over an 18 month period. Since then we have been able to stock multiple hospitals, birth centers, OBGYN offices, and other women’s organizations, as well as continuing to mail and hand deliver boxes. This year we anticipate 200 boxes will be assembled and donated by the Northern Indiana Chapter. The increasing demand for Hope Boxes is overwhelming and we are humbled by the opportunity to bring the hope of the gospel to broken hearts that so desperately need it.
Every month, we meet for our monthly Hope Gathering, a time of support, understanding and encouragement. This monthly meet up is open to any Hope Mom. There is so much healing to be found in sharing this journey together, sharing our Hope Babies, speaking their names, and in knowing that we aren’t alone.
Another vital aspect of the Northern Indiana Chapter’s ministry is our in-person Hope Group, a Bible study and small group for Hope Moms. Hope Groups are offered in the spring and fall, each lasting approximately ten weeks. We recently started our fall group and look forward to digging into God’s Word to discover who we are in Christ through the ‘Identity’ study.
Mother’s Day is often a painful and difficult time of year when you are a mom missing a baby in heaven. In May, we hosted our first Mother’s Day Tea and enjoyed delicious food, soothing hot tea, and were encouraged to fix our eyes on what is eternal—Jesus. Our theme passage was 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.
We are currently getting ready for our second annual Hoedown for Hope, our biggest fundraiser of the year. The evening consists of a BBQ style dinner, square dancing, silent auction, and bake sale. All proceeds from this event help fund our Hope Box initiative, as well as provide scholarships to the annual retreat, help cover the costs of our Hope Group materials. Details and a link to purchase tickets can be found on our Facebook page. www.fb.me/NorthernIndianaHopeMommies
For the past two years, our emphasis has been on developing relationships with both Hope Moms and the individuals in the medical community in Elkhart and St. Joe counties. The Lord has laid it upon our hearts to expand our focus and seek to serve the greater Michiana/Northern Indiana area. Recently, Hope Boxes were placed at hospitals in Steuben and DeKalb counties. We anxiously look forward to how the Lord will grow and use Hope Mommies across Northern Indiana.

Northern Indiana Chapter President and Hope Mom to MacyHope Mom Testimonies:
“Hope Mommies is more than a community; it is a family that I have an immediate connection with. It is exactly what I needed when I attended my first Hope Gathering, and it is still what I need today.”
-Kerry Vadala
Hope Mom to Bennie Gatling“The Northern Indiana chapter of Hope Mommies has been a huge blessing in my life. It has been a place for me to pour out my grieving heart, build community with other hope mom’s, and a place to find grace and love as I navigate this life without my babies. I am so thankful for Hope mommies and the desire they have to come alongside women in the worst of times and offer the hope of Christ.”
-Jessica Barnes
Hope Mom to Elias & Baby EPray for Northern Indiana:
- Pray for connections within the medical community and willingness from the hospital staff to distribute Hope Boxes.
- Pray for the women that we serve—that we would be able to develop rich relationships, and speak the truth in sincerity and love.
- Pray for wisdom as our chapter grows and for strength and stamina for our volunteer leaders who shoulder so much of the day to day operations and execution of our ministry.
- Pray that the Hope of Jesus is boldly proclaimed in all we say and do.
Hope Mommies Chapters assist in our mission to share the Hope of Christ with bereaved mothers and families experiencing infant loss by serving their local communities through providing on-the-ground support in their geographical area.
