Welcome to Hope Mommies In the Word devotionals. Over the next several weeks, we will be meditating on 2 Corinthians 1:3-11. As we study the truths found in these verses together, we’d love you to use the comments as a place to dialogue with us about what you are learning and share your answers to the questions below. We pray that you hearts will be encouraged as you dig into God’s Word each week with us!
“As you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf
for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.”
2 Corinthians 1:11
READ:
“Praying for you!” “You and your family are in my prayers!” Sound familiar? How many times have we heard this from friends, family, or even strangers? How many times have we said these words ourselves in an attempt to comfort others? And how many times are we actually faithful in following through with those prayers?
Prayer is a unique gift, a way to communicate with God. When we pray, we are petitioning the throne of heaven and baring our hearts. We are pressing pause on the whirlwind of our daily activities, turning our attention to our Heavenly Father, and acknowledging that we need Him.
When I think back on when we lost Kinley, I remember well the prayers of many—believers who knew the only way they could truly help us was to lift us up in prayer. I felt those prayers. I experienced peace where there should only have been pain. Now, I try to be more mindful, more purposeful, when I tell others I will pray for them. If possible, I pray with them, right then and out loud. You can actually see peace settle over them and faith pushing away fear. There is power in prayer.
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20
REFLECT:
- When have you experienced people praying for you and what was the result?
- Who can you be actively praying for?
JOURNAL:
Read the following verses about prayer: Philippians 4:6, James 5:16, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Romans 8:26, and Psalm 118:5. Which verses stand out to you? Write out a prayer of praise for what God has done in your life. Write out a prayer for someone else that is going through a difficult time and give it to them.
