Death Will Be No More

Welcome to Hope Mommies’ In the Word devotionals. Over the next several weeks, we will be studying Revelation 21 together, which gives us a beautiful picture of the eternity that awaits those who are in Christ . In this series, we seek to lift the grieving mother’s eyes up towards heaven and the imperishable inheritance that is hers and her precious baby’s in Christ.

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore,
for the former things have passed away.”

Have you ever lost a favorite item—like a treasured piece of jewelry or maybe even your car keys? Okay, car keys may not be a favorite item, but losing them can be disastrous. This week, my mom was telling me about how she lost her favorite silver watch my dad had given her. She looked everywhere she possibly thought it could be without finding it. She hated losing that watch. After more than a year, she was rotating her mattress and found it! She had given up hope of ever finding her watch and was so thrilled. 

When we lose a child, we may think we have lost them forever. Though we have lost them physically here on this earth, Revelation 21:4 says, “Death shall be no more.” 

Our children are very much alive in heaven. 

Though they may be lost to us now, and the world refers to them as dead, we can be assured they are alive in heaven. We are saddened that we cannot hold our babies in our arms, gather them to our chest, and watch them grow, but we can have the hope of holding them in heaven some day. 

When we put our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we have the hope of heaven—and of being reunited with our children. I know it is hard to wait to be with our children. I’ve been waiting nearly 25 years! I grieve, but it is not without hope. 

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart
that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Dear Mama, though we weep and grieve for our “lost” children, we know where they are—in the arms of our Savior—and we will see them again. Though our hearts may be heavy, we can rejoice knowing that our children are alive in heaven with Jesus. Death shall be no more!
