Comfort For Hope Siblings: God Cares About Your Tears
Dear one, the loss of your sibling is such a tremendous burden for you to carry. The heaviness of loss has deeply affected you, even though you do not fully understand this grief. Death is still such an illusive and incomplete concept in your young mind. How can I help you understand?
These are heavy days for you. I wish I could shield you from the grief that fills our home.
There may be days when you feel unseen. As we all work through the loss of our precious baby in different ways, your own grief may not always be recognized. I am so sorry. I wish I knew how to help you navigate this sorrow more fully.
But even when you feel unseen, I want you to know that God cares about your tears. They matter to Him. Every single one of them. Each time you find yourself wiping away tears, remember that before even one of them escaped from your eyes, God knew what was in your heart. He not only sees your tears, He knows why they are falling because He cares about you.
In the book of Exodus, we read about the Israelites calling out to God because of their slavery and sorrows in Egypt. When the Lord appeared before Moses in the burning bush, He said to him, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings” (Exodus 3:7).
God saw them. He knew what they were suffering through. Just as God heard the cry of His chosen people, He hears yours too, my little one. He is fully aware of your suffering. He understands your grief completely. Each tear that you cry is precious to Him. He keeps track of every one of them.
“You have taken account of my wanderings;
Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?”
Psalm 56:8
Did you understand what this verse means for you? Not only are each of your tears noticed by your heavenly Father, they matter to Him so much that it is as if He has collected each one of them and stored them in a bottle of remembrance. What a wondering God we serve. What great comfort can be found in His arms!
As these weary days march on, we can look forward to the day when our tears will be no more. One glorious day, when Christ returns to bring us to our heavenly home, there will be no more tears. God will wipe them all away, and there will never again be cause for them.
In the last book of the Bible, we are given a small glimpse into what heaven will be like. John records these hope-filled words for us:
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:4
Can you imagine how wonderful it will be when God himself wipes away the tears that we have cried. The sadness that you feel now over the death of your brother or sister will be undone. Sorrow will no longer be a reality for us. Death will be no more. We will never cry again. The great joy that we will experience on that day, and on all that days that follow, cannot be compared to the sadness that you feel right now (Romans 8:18). A joy is coming that is so perfect it will fill every part of your heart. There will be no room for sorrow with all the joy your heart will then contain.
