In the Word: Unshaken Hope
Welcome to Hope Mommies In the Word devotionals. Over the next several weeks, we will be meditating on 2 Corinthians 1:3-11. As we study the truths found in these verses together, we’d love you to use the comments as a place to dialogue with us about what you are learning and share your answers to the questions below. We pray that you hearts will be encouraged as you dig into God’s Word each week with us!
“Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings,
you will also share in our comfort.”
2 Corinthians 1:7
READ:
Some heartaches and trials will never make sense this side of heaven. One of those heartaches that we all know too well? Death. Loss. Burying an infant child gone too soon. While we never want to sweep our grief under the rug with christianese “feel good” sentiments, we, as Christians, have the upper hand when it comes to all things pain and sorrow. If we believe the Bible to be the infallible word of God, then we share the hope of heaven. We grieve deeply, yes, but we do not grieve like those with no hope. Our hope is found in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our hope is found in His gift of life after death.
We see in God’s word the promise that He meets us in the middle of our troubles, bringing us comfort. This comfort then spurs us on to continue our race, enduring pain and suffering well, and ultimately reinforces the hope we have in Jesus. He is our unshakable hope in these hard times, dear sisters. This hope is found not only in our struggles today but in the struggles of tomorrow. This hope is our comfort. He continues to deliver us, time and time again. We win because Jesus already won. THIS is our hope, firm and secure. THIS is how we press on in this in-between.
NEXT STEPS:
If you are able, take time to explore and digest the following passages of scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:3-11, 2 Corinthians 4:18, Romans 12:12, Romans 15:4, Romans 15:13, and Psalm 147:11. Inhale His word and exhale a breath of gratitude for this unshakable hope promised to us as daughters of the King. Pull out a journal and pen and write a prayer to your Father affirming the confidence you have in Him. Be honest about your pain while thanking Him that this is not the end, this world is not our home, and because of Him alone, we can press on, in hope.
