Hymns of Hope: O Holy Night

The world had long been groaning under the curse of sin. Generation after generation pining for the Messiah that had been promised on that fateful day long ago when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden and death spread to all mankind. But this night was not like all the others before it. For on this night a thrill of hope pierced through the darkness and broke forth into a new and glorious day. Weary souls rejoiced on the night when Christ was born.

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

It was the night of our dear Savior’s birth. Shepherds keeping watch over their sheep at night fell to their knees when the angel chorus erupted all around them. Oh night divine! Their waiting was finally over! The promised One had come. The shepherds left their sheep to search for this baby in a manger. They worshiped at His feet that night when Christ was born.

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine

Wise men from the Orient embarked on a long journey to follow the star that proclaimed the birth of our great King. Led by this light, they traveled far to worship the King of the Jews. His light still guides our hearts today. Just as these men from the East were drawn to the Savior by the light of a star, the Lord still calls us to Himself—bringing us out of the darkness and into His marvelous light. In the midst of all the trials that we endure, in the face of the heavy grief that we carry, we can find joy knowing that the King of Kings was born for us. With glowing hearts, let us draw near and worship as we remember this night that Christ was born.

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the wise men from Orient land
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend

This baby was born to break us free from the bondage of sin and shame. The chains have been broken! In Him, all oppression will one day cease. We look forward to the great inheritance we have been granted in Him, and we can rejoice because His gospel brings peace to our grieving hearts. With great joy, we will raise a grateful chorus to Him, praising Him with all that is within us for. Hope broke forth on the night when Christ was born.

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name
