God is at Work

Welcome to Hope Mommies’ In the Word devotionals. Over the next several weeks, we will be studying the book of Habakkuk together. In this book, we gain insight into how God is at work on our behalf even when we can’t always see it. Join us in the weeks ahead as we discover the God who is who carefully and lovingly crafted you, and lovingly created the gift of your child for which you now long. He has not carried you thus far simply to leave you on your own, but will be your Guide and your Strength.

“Look among the nations, and see;
wonder and be astounded.
For I am doing a work in your days
that you would not believe if told.”
Habakkuk 1:5

Habakkuk 1:5-11

We can often feel that God is ignoring us or doesn’t care for us. Habakkuk was no different. God was actively at work in ways he could not see. God was not unaware of the suffering that Habakkuk was seeing and experiencing. He is not ambivalent to those in distress. God was at work, behind the scenes, orchestrating events for His glory and their good.

Read the following verses and note the activity of God in each of them:

Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen.” Psalm 77:19

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  Isaiah 55:9

For His eyes are on the ways of a man, and He sees all his steps.” Job 34:21

O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.”  Psalm 139:1-4

O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear,” Psalm 10:17

The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry.” Psalm 34:15

In these verses we can see that:

  • God is at work, though it isn’t always obvious to us.
  • He is always seeing and watching over us.
  • He hears our cries and bends low to listen to us.

Sweet sister, I pray that you will trust that God is at work in you, creating something beautiful through your Hope Baby’s life in ways you cannot yet see. The promise for Habakkuk is one for us too, because our God never changes. He is an involved, caring, listening, Sovereign God.

JOURNAL:

Make a list of the ways that you have seen God at work in your life, especially in the midst of your sorrow. Search the Scriptures for other examples of the way God is at work even when we can’t see it.
