Every Tear Wiped Away

Welcome to Hope Mommies’ In the Word devotionals. Over the next several weeks, we will be studying Revelation 21 together, which gives us a beautiful picture of the eternity that awaits those who are in Christ . In this series, we seek to lift the grieving mother’s eyes up towards heaven and the imperishable inheritance that is hers and her precious baby’s in Christ.

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:4

READ:

Can you imagine a world without sadness? A life without death, tears, or pain so thick it makes your body ache? Two of my four babies live in heaven. Therefore, my heart carries the weight of death, and my eyes still wet from time to time when I reflect on “what could have been” instead of “what is.” Yet, an eternal life without sorrow is exactly what Jesus promises us in Revelation 21:4 for those who believe. The Word of God states, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

This truth almost seems incomprehensible, no? When all we know is life in the here and now, life with disappointments, unmet expectations, twists and turns in the journey that we would rather bypass, and sorrow and pain, a life filled with only joy seems too mysterious to grasp. These crossroads are exactly where our faith comes into play, sweet sisters. Moving toward our Father in faith and fully trusting that His promises are true allows us to believe in the things that seem too good to be true. This world is not the end. Praise God! There will be a day when our tears are no more and our eyes are continually lit bright with joy as we walk, hand-in-hand, with the One who makes all things new.

REFLECT:
  1. Revelation 21:4 paints a beautiful picture of the eternity that awaits those who are in Christ. What does this specific picture mean to you?
  2. How does the Scripture above renew your confidence in Christ’s ability to shower you with peace while you grieve?
JOURNAL:

Take time to write out Revelation 21:4. Next, read this verse slowly several times. After a time of meditation, list adjectives that fill your heart after resting with this promise of a future with no more tears. Finally, say a prayer of thanks to God for the hope of an eternity with Him.
