Drink Freedom Up

While my coffee was being brewed and my son was be-bopping around the house saying, “Bye, bye!” to every inanimate object, I had sewn together a perfect, inspiring little blog post in my head.

As I googled the lyrics to the song, “Dawn to Dusk” by All the Sons & Daughters, up came the lyrics and several blog posts already done on the truth this song sings.

Sigh.

So, as the morning hours faded and my son went down for his every-now-and-then-never-regular morning nap, I tried to muster up some other blogging topic. And that’s when it struck me: when sharing Jesus’ truth, it is fact that it has, indeed, already been shared before.
To quiet myself because someone else has already shared on the topic is just plain foolish. Should Matthew, Luke, and John put their pens down because good ole’ Mark already told the story of Jesus?!

The lyrics to this song, though written of by many, are still gold, biblically sound, pure gold.

“Tomorrow’s freedom is today’s surrender.”

There is no doubt that we are wired very differently, you and me. You may celebrate a sale at Nordstrom’s, while I am celebrating a good find at a local thrift store. Your eyes may water at commercials about lost kittens, while mine water at most greeting cards.

Your idea of a date may include high heels & candles, while mine is perfect with running shoes & a Tennessee trail.

Your prayers may have felt void as Jesus held your baby instead of you, while mine felt void the year of unemployment my husband & I went through– our first year of marriage, with a surprise baby on the way.

You & me may have very different stories, different upbringings, different marriages, different struggles, & different passions.  On paper we may not even line up as good friends.

BUT…but!  Stronger than any difference, you & me have the same Dad!  A Father who is singing over us, “Surrender. Let go. Choose Me. I will give you freedom.”

If we both will hush the world & hear Jesus singing this song over our hearts, believe it, & apply it, you & me… we will be sisters.

We will celebrate a timeless Truth!  We will share a Truth that overrides EVERY struggle, hardship, & heartache.

“Tomorrow’s FREEDOM is today’s surrender.”

Be still. Listen.  Hear Jesus singing this, holding your heart close, & shedding light in your darkest spots.

Cry.  Surrender.  Rejoice. Repeat.

Be free.

Whatever is holding you back, be it a friend unforgiven, bitterness, jealousy, depression, or guilt… have the courage to look that sin in the eye & LET IT GO.

Remember: “My yoke is easy & my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:30)

May we both be bold enough to really ask, “What am I holding onto that is holding me back from dancing in the freedom Jesus gives?”
I pray we are also bold enough to listen when Jesus tells us what that something is.

To have Jesus is to have freedom.  Tasting freedom, you will be drinking of Jesus.

Share yourself. Your heart, your story, your struggles.  Share the unfiltered pictures you would never upload to Instagram. Because, as we share & let go, we get insight, we relate, we become family. This is how God designed us to be. Drink the freedom Jesus is pouring out!

We all have a different story, yes… and with Jesus as the Hero in that story, we all have the same beautiful ending.  That’s a promise.

Choose Him. Choose Freedom. Let’s do this together.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17
