Consider What God Has Done
“Consider the work of God: who can make straight what He has made crooked? In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him.” Ecclesiastes 13:14

Lately, it feels like the whole world is learning the lesson that we Hope Mommies have already learned: we are not in control. If we were in control, we would not have chosen this path of adversity. If we were in control, we would “fix” things.
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21
But we do not have that control, and we do not have insight into the future. We do not always know how things are going to play out. All the unknowns and things outside our control can give us anxiety. Fear can creep in.
“Rejoice in hope; be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Romans 12:12
But thankfully, we know the One who is in control—the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). The Lord knows the future; He sees how things will unfold. He is like the conductor of a beautiful orchestral masterpiece. We might only feel the tension of a minor key at the moment, but He knows the crescendo is coming. He can hear the majesty of all the notes coming together.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5
If we let go of our need to control—if we loosen our grip on our own plans and listen to the song the Holy Spirit places in our hearts—peace will overcome that fear. We will be able to experience joy in times of prosperity and comfort in times of adversity. And perhaps, we may even gain some wisdom and grace during those hard times.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.” Psalms 46:1-5
JOURNAL:
What are some of the things you should release control of? How would releasing the need for control free you? Think of times when you were led down a path you wouldn’t choose, but later realized was the better path. Think of your blessings. How can you express your joy over those thing?
PRAY:
- Pray that we all have peace during times of uncertainty and adversity.
- Pray that we gain wisdom and grace through those times.
- Pray that we trust the Lord through it all.
- Pray that we recognize our blessings and rejoice in joy.
