Because He Lives: We Have Been Given New Life
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.”
1 Peter 1:3-4
READ:
As mothers who have endured the loss of a beloved child, it can feel impossible to come out from under death’s dark shadow. Perhaps, for you, that shadow includes pregnancy announcements and invitations to baby showers that prick the scars left behind by loss. Or maybe it’s the nursery that stands frozen in time, a constant reminder of your altered reality. Maybe it’s hospital bills that have piled up, or the unexpected road of secondary infertility. Whatever it is for you, sweet momma, there are days when it may seem like it is all just too much to bear.
You have been marked by loss and death, but death does not have the final say. Because of Christ’s resurrection from the dead—because He lives—those who have placed their hope in Him have been born again to a living hope. While this world is filled with discouragement, darkness, and despair, something greater is coming for those who are in Christ.
At the moment of salvation, you were ransomed with the imperishable blood of Christ. You were called out of darkness and into His marvelous light and were raised with Christ to a living hope. You were born again. Take a moment and marvel at this wonderful truth. This living hope leads to a glorious inheritance. You have been given the promise of eternity in heaven with the Lord, and the Spirit Himself is the guarantor of this inheritance. It is certain, unchanging, and imperishable.
It is because of this new life in Christ that we call ourselves Hope Moms. We grieve, yes, but not without hope. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, our separation from our babies is but temporary. In the midst of the darkness, we can cling to the hope of being united with our children in eternity. What great mercy the Father has bestowed upon us!
As we tarry in the already-but-not-yet of our new life in Christ, we can press on through the sorrow knowing that the day will come when God will renew all of creation, freeing it—and us—from sin’s dreadful curse. We shall see Him face to face, beholding His glory, and we will live forever with pure hearts and new bodies on a new earth with our precious babies in the presence of our glorious Savior.
