Crown of Beauty: Session 2

February 5-7 found 71 Hope Moms from all over the Unite States in Giddings, Texas. We spent a weekend sharing our stories, our precious babies, and finding that Christ can indeed comfort the brokenhearted, often through the hands and tears of another sufferer along the way. The following series is a recap of each of the main teaching sessions.     "Being asked to speak to you here this weekend is a testament to God’s goodness.  God brought me from a place where I thought I’d never leave, where I thought I didn’t have any comfort and I’d never survive, and He brought to a place where I’ve come ...

Feed Your Soul: Not Angels, Children of God {Angels}

One of the first sentences out of our doctor's mouth when coming back into the hospital room to consult with us after we learned that our daughter no longer had a heartbeat was that we now had our own “angel” looking over us. We knew his comment was intended to give a measure of comfort, yet, we also knew it was not literally true. We found solid comfort in the truths of Scripture about our hope of our daughter's present reality. These were truths we re-visited again and again in grief to resonate with our daughter's joy. That is why I want to share with you today six reasons we can rejoice that our sons and daughters ...

Crown of Beauty: Session 1

February 5-7 found 71 Hope Moms from all over the United States in Giddings, Texas. We spent a weekend sharing our stories, our precious babies, and finding that Christ can indeed comfort the brokenhearted, often through the hands and tears of another sufferer along the way. The following series is a recap of each of the main teaching sessions.     "My Gwendolyn was my very first pregnancy.  It was beautiful, and it was perfect.  Then I was in labor, and we lost her heartbeat.  I was at a birthing center, and so they rushed me over to get an emergency c-section and the on call head of L&D told me, ...

Feed Your Soul: Hallowed Days {Future Events, Afterlife}

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father…Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.  But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him,” (Matthew 24:36, 42-44).   Jesus Christ is coming again. He will make known His glory to the whole world. He will forever eradicate evil and death from ...

Stefanie’s Story

"I met my husband when I was 24. We met on eHarmony. For any of you who want to know if it’s a complete joke, it worked for us. However, I truly believe God would have made sure we ended up together regardless. I wish I could say it was love at first sight. But it just wasn’t. As a matter of fact, I only went out with him again because my best friend told me that “everyone deserves a second chance.” Our first date was awkward and a little uncomfortable, but on our second date, Mike stole my heart. Pretty much after that we were inseparable. We were engaged six months later and were married in June of 2009. I’ve never known anyone ...

Feed Your Soul: Mothers Suffering Well {Sanctification, The Responsibility of the Believer, & Suffering}

In the last post in the Feed Your Soul Series, we considered the ordinances of the church, that in the Lord’s supper we remember that Christ’s body has been broken for us and that in baptism we identify ourselves with Christ in His death and resurrection. Our baptism as believers is the outward declaration of our inward faith in Christ for the forgiveness of sins. When we consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to Christ, we have our impetus for desiring to live a godly life.   Martyn Lloyd-Jones writes this about the connection:   [Being delivered in the sense that our sins are forgiven] is only the beginning, but ...

Megan’s Story

"I remember leaving work that Thursday afternoon feeling a little off and thinking to myself all the way home that it’s not possible for me to be pregnant. My husband and I had been reeling from back-to-back miscarriages that year, the last one only six weeks removed. I stared in disbelief as I saw the two lines appear. This wasn’t supposed to be happening; we still had more testing to go through and we weren’t ready to try again. After several weeks of the typical pregnancy symptoms and initial blood work, I had begun to pray earnestly for this little baby and so had my sweet friends and family. I remember someone telling me that this would ...

Shannon’s Story

"When we found out we were pregnant with our third child we were over the moon. Being ever the planner, I immediately began to envision how this new one would fit into our lives. At our 20 week ultrasound we found out we were having a girl. We brought home pink flowers and balloons to surprise our two oldest. The next day I bought her first outfit- a sweet little summer romper. There were a few small things that came up on the ultrasound that we needed to follow up on, but were assured that they were nothing major. We went back at 24 weeks. Things seemed to be fine with our little one. Later, I remember so clearly the phone call that explained ...

Feed Your Soul: Between Now and Eternity {The Holy Spirit & Assurance)

My husband and I went to sit at a Lake Michigan beach while we were still in deep grief after our daughter’s stillbirth. We sat in chilly air, looking at the endless blue. This was the closest that we could come to an ocean, living in the Midwest. Looking out at my version of the ocean, I mused about themes of eternity in that endless view. We sat on our folding chairs and swatted at a few pesky flies, mostly in solitude together except for a few passersby in the distance whose frames eventually faded into the long stretch of sand. For me, this subtle act felt bold. It was one of my first attempts to return to the “real world,” meaning ...
